Like many modern romances, ours began online—but not through a dating app. We met through a shared love of Pokémon Go. Liz was helping run an online mapping service for the game, and when they decided to expand coverage from Massachusetts to Connecticut, Nick became one of her first subscribers in the new area. For a while, we were just names on a screen, chatting as friends with a mutual love for the game and community. But after almost a year of talking, we decided to meet in person—and once we did, it felt just as easy and natural as it had online.
Our first in-person meeting was in January 2022, when Liz traveled to Connecticut to spend the weekend. What was supposed to be a few days of exploring the area turned into a weekend snow-in thanks to a winter storm. We cooked (Liz cooked), watched movies, played games, and realized how natural and easy everything felt. That following week, Nick drove up to Massachusetts to visit Liz, kicking off our weekend routine of trading the two-hour drive to see each other. From the beginning, everything just clicked—our connection grew naturally, grounded in comfort, communication, and lots of laughter.
We officially started dating in January 2022, moved in together in New Haven by July 2023, and bought our first home in January 2025. Along the way, we’ve shared countless adventures—traveling to Pokémon Go tournaments in places like Hartford, Orlando, and Toronto, where we've met lifelong friends. The game that brought us together continues to be something we love doing side by side, and the community around it feels like an extended family.
Nick proposed to Liz on April 8, 2024, during a trip to Montreal to see the total solar eclipse. He waited until the moment of totality to pop the question on a quiet pier in a little town just outside the city. It was intimate and magical—despite the crowd of fellow eclipse-watchers around us, the world felt like it paused for just the two of us. Liz was completely surprised (she had no idea Nick had even been ring shopping), and the moment was perfect—beautiful, surreal, and full of joy.
What we love most about each other is how easy and supportive our relationship has always been. We communicate well, lift each other up, and know when to give space or share a laugh. We balance each other out in the best ways—and we truly enjoy doing life together.
Looking ahead, we're excited to turn our new house into a home—complete with a backyard oasis and a pool for summer cookouts, weekend relaxation, and pool parties with friends and family. And of course, we can't wait for all the traveling, gaming, and quiet everyday moments yet to come.
